The Polish banking services market is fully developed, and investors can rely on receiving full support for their business activities in Poland. At present, a large number of well-established organisations operate on this market. These include Polish banks, as well as the largest global banking institutions. All in all, there are now 90 subjects providing banking services for the mass market and the corporate sector.
The most important event that has taken place on the Polish banking market in recent years is the presently executed
merger of Pekao S.A. with BPH, resulting directly from a pan-European merger, in which the
Italian UniCredito (the majority shareholder of Pekao S.A.) has taken over the
German Bayerische Hypo und Vereinsbank (holder of a majority block of shares of BPH). The merger of Pekao S.A. and BPH will result in the establishment of the largest credit institution in Poland and the entire area of Central and Eastern Europe.
